The 2021 Global Conference on Health & Climate Change

The 2021 Global Conference on Health & Climate Change on Nov. 6, 2022 was billed as the “most important and far-reaching summit on environmental health yet.” But was it?

Pandemic-related labor shortages combined with supply chain disruptions are testing the resilience of the current system. Perhaps this is a silver lining to what has been a dark cloud over us all. An economic system deeply rooted in business as usual has no impetus to change unless extreme circumstances such as we are seeing now move it to do so. With ever present signs of global warming taking a foothold on our shores, never has it been so imperative to recalibrate the damaging economic system that no longer serves us and gives little thought to future generations.

The World Health Organization called for global collaboration with the Paris Agreement as its fundamental focus. World governments, businesses, institutions and others convened in Glasgow, UK and virtually to create solutions related to addressing pollution, conserving nature, food production systems, sustainable infrastructure, clean energy, and the role of cities in addressing the underlying threat of climate change.

A keystone species is an animal that helps define its ecosystem. When a keystone species from any natural habitat disappears, the entire ecosystem may be markedly different.

Re-Greening the Deserts
